BUZZ (tm) Butterfly Bush / Buddleja
We are very proud to be able to now offer the Buzz Buddleja, an exciting
dwarf Butterfly Bush series. At 1/3 the
size of standard varieties, Buzz Buddleja
enjoy vigorous, compact growth habit, yet
maintain the elegance and large, shapely
flowers of the larger standard types. BUZZ™ varieties have full-sized, graceful, tapering flower spikes on a
shorter, more compact plant. They flower from May/June to hard frosts
and are delightfully scented. And of course, they attract butterflies
like nobody’s business!
Butterfly Bush has long been a staple of the gardens of
England and the US. However, Buddleja has often been a challenge to
incorporate into smaller gardens because their large size and rather
rangy habit.
The new Buddleja BUZZ™ series of Butterfly Bush changes
all that. Developed by the famed English plantsmen at Thompson &
Morgan, BUZZ™ reinvents Butterfly Bush. Increasingly smaller gardens
drove them to consider what they could do to create new hybrids that
would be more compact and easier to grow. After more than 8 years of
breeding and selection work they developed this exciting BUZZ™ Series.
These new hybrids are perfect in gardens both small and large. While
other Butterfly Bush plants will get 8 to 12 feet tall, BUZZ™ varieties
stay between 3 to 5 feet tall and respond well to shaping.
BUZZ™ Butterfly Bush are excellent for planting in the front of houses, porches, decks, or they can be planted in a mixed flower
garden behind shorter plants to add height and interest. They are
perfect as a cut flower and produce so many wonderfully scented flowers,
you can always have more than enough for the garden and the table. And
not to forget: butterflies absolutely LOVE BUZZ™!
Because BUZZ™ varieties are smaller and better branching, they are ideal for container & patio gardens. They are easy to grow in containers that are 16” in
diameter or larger when planted in a high-quality potting soil. They
prefer a full-sun location and will bloom best in a container when
fertilized with a balanced plant food every few weeks.
Because BUZZ™ Butterfly Bushes literally cover themselves with flowers,
they need to be grown in good soil or fertilized every few weeks, with
regular watering during hot and dry weather to prevent wilting. Removing
spent flower spikes will make for tidy-looking plants and keep new
flowers coming. If they grow larger than you would like, you can simply
cut the plants back and they will quickly regrow and begin blooming
