PLANT DESCRIPTIONS & FACTS
Hemerocallis 'Custard Candy'
Overall Description
Custard Candy has a reputation of being one of the best blooming daylily varieties available today. Light cream colored blooms have a reddish purple center, and a yellow throat. At first glance, Custard Candy appears to be almost identical to Canadian Border Patrol - however, there are several distinct differences between these two varieties. First, the overall bloom size is smaller on Custard Candy ( 4" avg versus 6" avg for Canadian Border ) - secondly the ruffled edges on Custard Candy are lemon yellow colored, whereas the Canadian Border Patrol edges are a dark purple.
Foliage is a good green color and very grass-like, making a good contrast against the bright white flowers. Blooms start in early summer, and extend all the way through till very early fall in most climates. This variety is an excellent re-bloomer, meaning that it is known to produce several "waves" of blooms throughout the summer months, rather then just one heavy bloom period in early summer. Re-blooming can be further increased & encouraged through the removal of old, expired blooms & stalks ( scapes ).
The foliage of Custard Candy is completely dormant in all climates. We actually suggest trimming, or "mowing" the foliage back to a height of about 5 or 6 inches at the end of the fall season. This way, the foliage can have a fresh, new start when spring rolls around, and will look its absolute best all season long.
Custard Candy is one of the more recent additions to our Daylily category, and is perfect for medium sized border plantings. Also looks outstanding in mass plantings. A truly worthy daylily variety for consideration to brighten up any landscape area.

Fertilization / Feeding:
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend
POOPeas
for use with all of our daylily varieties. However, either water soluble ( Miracle Gro, or equivalent ), or granular fertilizers ( Holly Tone is excellent ) are also good options. Most any granular fertilizers with a 6-12-12, or 10-10-10 ratio are also acceptable. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting.
POOPeas
may be used at anytime.
