Gaillardia x grandiflora 'Mesa Bright Bicolor'

Overall Description

Mesa Bicolor Gaillardia is an extremely colorful, long blooming perennial variety of Blanket Flower ( Gaillardia ) that makes an excellent colorful addition to any garden bed, and does very well in containers or baskets as well. Mesa Bicolor is extremely compact in habit, and loaded with long lasting blooms starting in late spring....lasting all season until first frost. Removal of old, expired flowers will increase new blooms all season long.

Flowers are approx 3" in diameter, and consist of a bright burnt orange / coppery red center with pure bright golden yellow on the outer section of each petal. Gaillardia is known for attracting butterflies, and is a very low maintenance, rather trouble free flowering perennial that is quite drought tolerant once established. Also has shown excellent deer resistance.

Great for use in container gardening, borders, mass plantings, or anywhere a vibrant splash of color is desired. Smaller, compact growth habit fits well in any partial to full sun location.

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
