Description & Plant Facts Packing & Shipping Info

Juniperus chinensis var. Sargentii - also referred to as 'Henry'

Overall Description

A very interesting growth habit to this low to mid growing juniper. It has long creeping "feeler" type branches - almost reminds me of starfish legs. Nice green color with just a hint of blue to it. Very hardy - wind & drought tolerant. Doesn't get out of control - fairly low maintenance for use as a mid-level ground cover or in foreground plantings. Likes well drained soils like most all junipers. Can be planted in full sun to part shade. We suggest a couple of prunings be performed while the plants are fairly young to help increase branching habit, and develop even better foliage density.
This variety was first discovered by C.S. Sargent off of the North Island of Japan ( Hokkaido ) in 1892, and regularly found on rocky cliffs in both coastal & mountainous regions throughout Japan.
