EVERGREEN PREMIER SELECTION

Juniperus chinensis x pfitzeriana 'Gold Star'

Overall Description

Very similar in growth habit to 'Gold Lace'. Nice medium green foliage is brightly tipped in golden yellow. This gives the plant almost a "frosted" look, almost like you had dipped each little branch at the very ends in yellow paint. Very pretty plant - also very hardy. A sport of Pfitzer Juniper that is excellent for a mid range foundation / hedge type planting. Also works for accent plantings as well. Golden yellow highlights will fade during winter months, but return again with the onset of warmer weather / temps in the spring.

 Plant Facts & Specifications

Mature Height: 3-4 ft

Mature Width:  4-7 ft

Growth rate: Moderate ( 4"- 8" avg per yr )

Hardiness Zones:  4-9 ( if unsure of your zone, please use zone finder below )

Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade. Best color display in full sun exposure locations.

Soil Preference: Average to slightly acidic & sandy - well drained. Mulching recommended.

Foliage Color & Texture: Foliage is very typical of most juniper varieties - especially the Pfitzer types. Slightly more needlelike foliage than either Blue Pfitzer, or Gold Lace. Color is a good medium green base that is highlighted / tipped in bright golden yellow. These highlights will fade during the winter months, but return with the onset of spring & warmer weather.

Flower, Cone, Or Berry Facts: None to mention

Diseases / Insects: Rather trouble free juniper - both Phomopsis & Kabatina blights have been observed on specimens if kept too wet for an extended period of time. Adequate drainage is a must.

Fertilization / Feeding: Either water soluble ( Miracle Gro, or equivalent ), or granular ( Holly Tone is excellent ). Other granular types with 6-12-12, or 10-10-10 ratio is acceptable. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting.
