PLANT DESCRIPTIONS & FACTS

Hemerocallis 'Irish Elf'

Overall Description

Irish Elf is a very dwarf sized, compact variety of daylily.....but don't let the smaller mature size of this variety fool ya. This little gem can pack a punch when it comes to performance!! A profuse bloomer of nice, tight, neon lemon yellow blooms from late spring right in through until early fall. Blooms are solid color with no markings or shadings, and are the ultimate yellow in color. A perfect contrast to the dark green, blade like foliage which forms a nice compact clump. An excellent re-bloomer,flowers can be expected to extend all the way through till very early fall in most climates - known to produce several "waves" of blooms throughout the summer months, rather then just one heavy bloom period in early summer. Re-blooming can be further increased & encouraged through the removal of old, expired blooms & stalks ( scapes ).
Foliage is evergreen in most climates - will tend to keep most all of its foliage through the winter in warmer areas, but foliage will tend to look rather rough in areas that are on the colder end of this varieties' hardiness range. We actually suggest trimming, or "mowing" the foliage back to a height of about 5 or 6 inches at the end of the fall season. This way, the foliage can have a fresh, new start when spring rolls around, and will look its absolute best all season long.
Ice Carnival is one of the latest additions to our Daylily category, and is perfect for smaller, low growing foreground or accent border plantings. Also looks outstanding in mass plantings. Perfect for locations where minimal height is desired.

Fertilization / Feeding:
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend POOPeas for use with all of our daylily varieties. However, either water soluble ( Miracle Gro, or equivalent ), or granular fertilizers ( Holly Tone is excellent ) are also good options. Most any granular fertilizers with a 6-12-12, or 10-10-10 ratio are also acceptable. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. POOPeas may be used at anytime.
