PLANT DESCRIPTIONS & FACTS
Juniperus sabina 'Calgary Carpet'
This low growing groundcover juniper is extremely durable & hardy, and has excellent cold hardiness - can withstand conditions through zone 3. Foliage is very bright green with a somewhat softer texture than many other low growing junipers. Great for use as a low growing accent, groundcover in mass plantings, as well as great for along sidewalks. A great carefree choice - especially in colder climates.
Typical spacing for most solid groundcover applications will be between 2-3 ft apart, but exact distance will vary depending upon exact planting location, sun exposure, area of the country, etc.

very nice, dense bright green foliage - all the way throughout the plant, including the center. Little, if any, bronzing or winter discoloration observed in most climates.
Flower, Cone, Or Berry Facts:
very old, mature specimens have been known to produce a few cones here & there. Cones are silvery blue in color, and are about 1/4" in diameter.
Diseases / Insects:
Rather trouble free juniper - however Phomopsis has been observed on specimens that have been kept in very wet conditions, or in soil with inadequate drainage.
2 1/2 - 3 feet apart for most typical groundcover applications.
Deer Resistance Rating:
Lowest Resistance [ 1 - 2 - 3 -
- 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 -
- 10 ] Highest Resistance
Fertilization / Feeding:
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend
for use with all of our evergreen species. However, either water soluble ( Miracle Gro, or equivalent ), or granular fertilizers ( Holly Tone is excellent ) are also good options. Most any granular fertilizers with a 6-12-12, or 10-10-10 ratio are also acceptable. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting.
may be used at anytime.
Additional Features & Characteristics:
This variety has shown itself to have exceptional drought tolerance, and a fairly low water requirement once established.
