Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Red Star'
This hard to find Chamaecyparis has a compact, dense, somewhat columnar growth. Beautiful blue-green, soft foliage that turns an interesting plum purple in the winter. Likes very moist, but well drained soil. Full sun to part shade. One of the few Chamaecyparis I can think of that goes through such a drastic color change from season to season. The winter purple color is just as striking as the warm weather blue-green. One of our personal favorites here at the nursery - can be used in a wide range of landscape applications.
