Overall Description
This
plant is
a compact, horizontal spreader with needle-like foliage. Makes a
wonderfully striking addition to most any landscape - good mid-level
foreground planting, or hedge / border planting as well. Responds very
well to trimming, so can be maintained at a variety of heights &
widths. It's foliage is extremely bright
yellow in the summer, more bronze-yellow in the winter. This extremely
brilliant coloration provides a real knockout contrast when mixed in
among darker green species. Must be planted
in the sun for best color display though. By far the most striking of
all the junipers we sell -
cream of the crop. First introduced by Girard Nuseries.

display brilliant yellow coloration when planted in full sun locations
though.
Soil Preference: Average
to
slightly acidic & sandy - well drained. Mulching strongly recommended.
Foliage Color & Texture: Mainly
needle type foliage is arranged on compact, arching branches. Very poky
& prickly - typical of many J. chinensis varieties. Foliage color
is green with very, very bright yellow newer growth & outer
portions during the warmer months. This bright yellow tones down to a
more bronzish, orange / yellow in very cold climates through the winter.

Diseases / Insects:
Rather trouble free juniper variety - however, Phomopsis & Kabatina
blights have been observed on specimens, especially if kept in
conditions with too much moisture or inadequate soil drainage.
Fertilization / Feeding: For maximum health & blooming, we highly recommend POOPeasOrganic Fertilizer & Soil Comditioner.
However, either water soluble ( Miracle Gro, or equivalent ), or
granular fertilizers ( Holly Tone is excellent ) are also good options. Most any granular fertilizers with a 6-12-12, or
10-10-10 ratio are also acceptable. Best to fertilize in early spring,
and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers
during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. POOPeas may be used at anytime.Recommended Spacing: 3 ft apart recommended for hedge planting
