Hemerocallis 'Strawberry Candy'
Overall Description
Strawberry Candy Daylily has soft pastel pink blooms with a darker red eye / center. Blooms are held against nice bright green grass-like foliage, and start in early summer. This variety is an excellent re-bloomer, meaning that it is known to produce several "waves" of blooms throughout the summer months, rather then just one heavy bloom period in early summer. Good numbers of blooms generally appear all throughout summer, and well into the early fall. Re-blooming can be further increased & encouraged through the removal of old, expired blooms & stalks ( scapes ).
Foliage is semi-evergreen in warmer climates, but will look rather rough during the winter months.........and will go completely dormant in colder climates. We actually suggest trimming, or "mowing" the foliage back to a height of about 3 or 4 inches at the end of the fall season. This way, the foliage can have a fresh, new start when spring rolls around, and will look its absolute best all season long.
Very low maintenance - one of the taller daylilies we grow at maturity. Strawberry Candy is a perfect match of nice green foliage & bright, pastel colors - a real knockout when in full bloom!!

Full sun to partial shade - prefers 4-6 hrs of sun per day
Soil Preference:
Average to slightly sandy - well drained with good organic content
Foliage Color & Texture:
Bright green grass-like foliage much like that of Liriope grass, except much lighter, brighter green in color. Blades are very wide, and fan shaped at the very base of the plant. This daylily variety tends to be semi-evergreen in warmer climates, while going completely dormant in colder zones.
Flower, Cone, Or Berry Facts:
Nice, bright pastel pink
flowers with a darker red throat / center....each lasting for one day, and followed by repeated blooms day after day. The pastel pink & dark red throat are a nice combination.
Diseases / Insects:
No serious damage from pests have been noted, although occasional battles with common garden pests ( aphids, snails, slugs, etc ) are always a possibility.
Recommended Spacing:
20"-24" apart for most border type plantings.

Fertilization / Feeding:
Either water soluble ( Miracle Gro, or equivalent ), or very mild granular are recommended. Best to fertilize in early spring when sprouting first occurs throughout the spring & summer seasons..........and again in mid fall. Use caution when feeding during peak summer heat - go easy with all feeding applications during that time. Feeding / fertilizing NOT recommended for the first week or so after transplanting.
