Ilex x meserveae 'Blue Prince' & 'Blue Princess'

Overall Description

This new combo pack includes one of each ( Blue Prince & Blue Princess Holly ) planted together with one another in the same container!! Takes the guesswork out of trying to supply adequate & acceptable male pollinators for the female clones. Also eliminates the worry of having to place the male pollinator within a certain distance of the females to be pollinated. By offering them as a matched pair / combo pack......the customer is guaranteed to get berries on every container, rather than having a male pollinator sticking out like a sore thumb because it's the only tree with no bright red berries in winter, lol. Guarantees a nice, even distribution of berries in every planting.

Both the Blue Prince, and Blue Princess Holly are Meserve Hybrid Holly introductions that are both much improved versions of Blue Girl & Blue Boy Holly. Known as one of the best berry producers of all Hollies with berries that are a dark red color, and are set against foliage that is a lustrous bluish green color. Has a good, dense growth habit with a broad pyramidal shape with maturity. Considered as one of the hardiest of all the Meserve hybrid hollies, often surviving where other Hollies have failed. Likes full sun, but will accept fair amounts of shade as well. Somewhat moist, well drained soil is preferred for best results. The Blue Prince is also an acceptable pollinator for several other female clone Holly varieties - but they are the perfect match for the Blue Princess.

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
