Daylilies are a very popular, and colorful perennial that have several attractive features which make them outstanding additions to your home landscape. They are very easy to grow, require little to no maintenance at all, come in a staggering variety of colors, shapes & sizes..........and adapt to fairly wide range of soils, sun exposure, etc. There are three main classifications for Dayliles: Evergreen, Semi-Evergreen, and Dormant ( Deciduous ). We have provided the classification for each variety on their product page. Please keep in mind that even the "Evergreen" varieties can tend to look a little ragged during the winter months.....especially in colder climates. Virtually all Daylilies look their absolute best in spring thru mid fall, with the bulk of their blooming coming during those periods.
Daylilies have extremely delicate looking blooms - with each bloom generally lasting for only a day ( hence the name "daylily" ). But as quickly as blooms appear for their daily show of color & beauty, new blooms form and appear the following day, and the day after, so forth & so on. The bloom period will vary slightly depending on the exact Daylily variety you decide to plant, as well as your area of the country. The warmer your zone, the earlier they will tend to go through their bloom cycle. In general, very late spring thru mid summer is considered to be the bloom peak for most daylily varieties - however many varieties ( including most ALL of the varieties we grow ) tend to be excellent re-bloomers, and will continue to put forth smaller "waves" of blooms throughout the remainder of the summer months. Re-blooming can be encouraged even further through removal of old, expired bloom stalks ( called scapes ) - and it also will keep the plant looking very nice & neat. This process is certainly not necessary, but it's a good idea to do it if at all possible.
We are very happy to have introduced a few Daylily varieties into our inventory. Even though there are literally thousands of different named varieties that have been introduced over the past several decades, we have chosen a few that we feel are very easy to grow, brightly colored, and have an excellent track record of performance over the years. We invite you to browse through our selections to see if there is one ( or more ) that just might be the answer to add a huge splash of color to your landscape.
