Hemerocallis 'Double Talk'

Overall Description

Double Talk Daylily is a relatively new addition to our Daylily varieties we grow / offer. The biggest traits that stood out about this variety when we were evaluating it, was of course the huge, golden colored double blooms averaging nearly 5" in diameter. But equally as important as the amazing bloom quality, size, and color was the fact that Double Talk is by nature a later bloomer than many similarly colored Daylily varieties. This gives you an extra huge splash of very vibrant color a little later in the season, when many other flowering species & varieties are kind of winding down their color displays. This was a very appealing feature in our opinion and, when combined with the other outstanding attributes offered by Double talk, it was really a no-brainer whether we should bring this variety in, or not.

Double talk is also widely known to be one of the best repeat, continual bloomers as well. Re-blooming can be further increased & encouraged through the removal of old, expired blooms & stalks ( scapes ). This variety was first hybridized / introduced back in 1966......so it has a great track record that has definitely withstood the test of time, and has proven itself to be a very worthy addition to any garden where a bright, carefree splash of golden color is desired.

Foliage is semi-evergreen in warmer climates, but will look rather rough during the winter months.........and will go completely dormant in colder climates. We actually suggest trimming, or "mowing" the foliage back to a height of about 3 or 4 inches at the end of the fall season. This way, the foliage can have a fresh, new start when spring rolls around, and will look its absolute best all season long.
Very low maintenance - one of the taller daylilies we grow at maturity. Double Talk is a great bloomer - and it's vibrant golden double looms are virtually unmatched in any other daylily.

--Foliage Color & Texture :
Bright green grass-like foliage much like that of Liriope grass, except much lighter, brighter green in color. Blades are very wide, and fan shaped at the very base of the plant. This daylily variety goes completely dormant during winter in most all climates.

--Flower, Cone, Or Berry Facts :
Wonderfully clean, uniform, double blooms with a darker golden / orange-yellowish color. Definitely NOT your typical yellow Daylily!! Blooms are double, and a very definitive golden color averaging almost 5" in diameter. Excellent re-bloomer as well.

--Diseases / Insects :
No serious damage from pests have been noted, although occasional battles with common garden pests ( aphids, snails, slugs, etc ) are always a possibility.

--Recommended Spacing :
24" - 30" apart for most border type plantings.

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
