Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Filifera'

Overall Description

Green Thread Cypress is actually a variety of Chamaecyparis ( False Cypress ), but is so commonly known as a cypress that we chose to list it among our other cypress selections. This plant has a mounding growth habit which can be kept lower by pruning. It is the original, standard version of Chamaecyparis / Cypress cultivars - the variety from which all of the golden colored cultivars were derived. Green Thread has very nice dark green foliage year round that is very stringlike in shape & texture. The very different foliage structure works very well to help this plant to stand out when planted amongst other evergreen species.

This plant has stood the test of time, and is still very widely used in many, many landscape uses today. Foundation plantings, accents, wonderful group plantings.......just about anywhere a nice neat mounded evergreen is desired. Very low maintenance, and one of the most heat tolerant of all chamaecyparis varieties. Also withstands pruning / shearing very well, which allows it to be maintained at a wide range of heights & widths if needed.

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
