Diervilla 'Kodiak Orange' (tm)
Plant Patent #27548

Overall Description

Kodiak Orange (tm) is a specially developed variety of Diervilla, and a member of the Proven Winners lineup of outstanding plant varieties. Dierville is actually native to parts of North America, and is very hardy, drought tolerant, and easy to grow. The Kodiak Orange (tm) variety has been specially developed with increased flower bloom capability, and amazing foliage color..........especially in fall. It is a deciduous shrub with orange tinted new growth, and a fall color display of oranges & reds that is honestly second to none. The flowers are bright yellow, and form in small to medium sized clusters all summer long. Flowers persist throughout the entire summer season, and begin to diminish just before Kodiak Orange (tm) unleashes its fall color display.

Kodiak Orange (tm), as all Diervilla varieties is a great attractant for butterflies, hummingbirds, and honey bees. This shrub makes a great, carefree, border planting, foundation plant, and also looks amazing when mass planted in groups of 6 or more. Has shown excellent drought & deer resistance, and can be maintained or shaped in a wide range of sizes / heights if desired.

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
