Juniperus horizontalis 'Lime Glow'


Overall Description


An extremely attractive semi dwarf type juniper that is sometimes used as a groundcover, but is equally as useful as a low growing foreground planting, or colorful accents along borders, walkways, or in front of larger growing species with different color & texture. Growth habit is somewhat squatty, and vase shaped.........being narrower at the base, and spreading or arching outward at about a 45 degree angle from the base.

Foliage is a bright chartreuse yellow color especially when new, and during the warmer months - turns a rich coppery color in winter, especially in colder climates providing a definite seasonal interest. Adapts to a fairly wide range of soils & conditions, but does prefer well drained soils for best results. Also prefers locations with good sun exposure in order to display the brightest coloration possible.

--Foliage Color & Texture :
Evergreen - extremely bright chartreuse yellow new growth fades slightly to a bright lime green with maturity. Winter coloration has strong coppery accents, which dissipates with the onset of warmer temps in spring

--Flower, Cone, Or Berry Facts :
Cones - small round, pea sized fleshy cones are occasionally seen on older specimens, but not generally a heavy cone producer.

--Diseases / Insects :
Occasional bagworm possible, otherwise can be prone to typical juniper blights if kept in excessively wet, or poorly drained locations for extended period of time.

--Recommended Spacing :
Depends on usage intended. For groundcover use, 24" - 28" apart. For accents, or any use where a gap / break between individual plants is desired, widen spacing to approx 4 ft apart.

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
