Hemerocallis 'Little Business'

Overall Description

Little Business produces lots of rosy red blooms with yellow colored throat & center. Blooms start in early to mid summer, and extend all the way through till very early fall in most climates. This variety is an excellent re-bloomer, meaning that it is known to produce several "waves" of blooms throughout the summer months, rather then just one heavy bloom period in early summer. Re-blooming can be further increased & encouraged through the removal of old, expired blooms & stalks ( scapes ).

Foliage is semi-evergreen in warmer climates, but will look rather rough during the winter months.........and will go completely dormant in colder climates. We actually suggest trimming, or "mowing" the foliage back to a height of about 5 or 6 inches at the end of the fall season. This way, the foliage can have a fresh, new start when spring rolls around, and will look its absolute best all season long. Very low maintenance perennial daylily that has striking color contrast in each bloom. Makes a great color display along walkways, in flower beds, or in mass plantings.

--Foliage Color & Texture:
Bright green grass-like foliage much like that of Liriope grass, except much lighter, brighter green in color. Blades are very wide, and fan shaped at the very base of the plant. Foliage on this daylily variety is slightly darker green in color than most of the other varieties we grow, and is semi-evergreen in warmer climates. Will still go completely dormant in colder zones.

--Flower, Cone, Or Berry Facts:
Flower blooms are bright rosy red in color with a soft yellow throat & center. Each bloom lasts for one day, and is followed by repeated blooms day after day.

--Diseases / Insects:
No serious damage from pests have been noted, although occasional battles with common garden pests ( aphids, snails, slugs, etc ) are always a possibility.

--Recommended Spacing:
18" - 24" apart for most border type plantings.

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
