Weigela florida 'My Monet' (tm)

Overall Description

My Monet (tm) is a Proven Winners introduction of Weigela that has great landscape value due to its very full, compact growth habit, relatively small mature size, and brilliance of both bloom AND foliage. Foliage is a variegated creamy white and green - with a pink cast throughout. The amount of pink displayed will vary, depending on factors such as time of year, planting location / sun exposure. and even soil composition. In general, best color display is seen in location with part sun / part shade. Recommended sun exposure is a good 5 - 6 hrs of sun per day.

Blooms are typical of other Weigela varieties in shape ( trumpet shape ), and are vibrant pink in color. Blooms begin in mid to late spring, and persist for a few weeks. Blooming can be prolonged, and encouraged again later in season with minor trimming & dead heading of longer branches & expired blooms.

Slow to moderate growth rate, and burst of color make this variety very desirable for many landscape applications. Compact growth habit which requires less trimming & maintenance than many Weigela varieties. Makes a great dwarf sized selection to just about any perennial flower garden, great as a foundation or foreground planting. Even looks nice when planted in group settings.

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
