Muhlenbergia capillaris 'Pink Muhly Grass'

Overall Description

Pink Muhly Grass is a pink version of the North American native Muhly Grass, and is a perennial favorite due to its tolerance of poor soils, and wide range of conditions. This grass does not spread through rhizomes, as is the case with most Liriope varieties, and many other ornamental grass cultivars. Instead, Pink Muhly Grass can be grown & multiplied through either division of larger clumps, or through seed. Forms large sturdy clumps with very thin bladelike foliage, and bursts with billows of soft pink seed heads / blooms in very late summer thru mid fall. When in full display, this grass has the appearance of having large pink clouds floating above it. Beautiful display of soft color!

Pink Muhly Grass is a great choice for naturalizing many landscape areas, and also works well in areas with poor, rocky soils, or areas with erosion problems. Can either be planted in single clumps, spaced apart for individual displays of color, or mass planted in groups for a truly spectacular color display.

--Fertilization / Feeding: For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
