Rosa 'Meigalpio' - Red Drift Rose - PLANT PATENT# 17877

Overall Description

The Red Drift Rose has the smallest, most petite blooms of all the Drift Series of roses...but don't let that fact fool you. They pack a mighty little punch in terms of blooming power!! They are extremely prolific bloomers of bright rosy red flowers from early spring right on thru til frost. Drift Roses are a hybrid cross between full sized traditional groundcover roses, and miniature roses. Like all Drift Roses, the Red Drift Rose has outstanding disease & pest resistance with little to no maintenance required. They have a gently spreading growth habit, and will even drape over rock walls if given the opportunity. They are "self cleaning" - meaning that there is no need to dead head, or remove expired blooms.......unless you just enjoy that kind of thing, lol.

We strongly suggest that all Drift Roses be pruned back in late winter / early spring after the last frost - to a height of approx 4" - 6". This type of pruning will allow for maximum new growth for the entire season, and maximum bloom capacity too. Also keeps an extremely nice dense, compact form to the shrub. For optimum health, darkest foliage, and maximum blooms we also highly recommend the use of Espoma Rose Tone with any kind of Rose.........but especially with the Sunrosa or Drift Roses!! No need to do anything else to them for the entire year........just sit back & watch them do their thing!!

--Fertilization / Feeding :
For maximum health & hardiness, we highly recommend a good grade granular ( preferably organic ) fertilizer / plant food for use with all of our plant species. We personally use, and recommend the Espoma line of organic plant foods, as they are super effective yet gentle enough to use on even the most delicate of evergreen species where fertilizer burn would normally be a major concern. However, a water soluble type plant food (Miracle Gro, or equivalent ) are also acceptable options. Other granular fertilizers with a 6 - 12 - 12, or 10 - 10 - 10 ratio can also be used - but we suggest using them at 1/2 - 3/4 strength to avoid any chemical burn issues to the root system of the plants. Best to fertilize in early spring, and again in mid fall - avoid feeding standard chemical fertilizers during hot summer months, and directly after transplanting. The Espoma Organic Plant Foods may be used at anytime.
